Being #RICH
If you go on to Google and type the words ‘Rich Meaning’ (alternatively you can find that dictionary
and look up the meaning), you will find that all the different meanings
given there essentially mean ‘to have abundance of something’. This something can be of culture, money,
colour, land, people, or anything and everything else under the sun. Sadly, and
more importantly it is a matter of big concern that this word has come to be
associated mostly with money.
If you get out and look around, you will see a country which
has no dearth of any resource (mineral or
human). You name it, we have it. But
the way these resources have been handled in the past is something that ‘We,
the people’ have to look at more closely. With the advent of new government
hopes have rekindled among most of the citizens for a different, richer
country. (Went slightly off topic, let me
come back)
How rich you think you are actually depends on the perception
you have of the word. For most people, the Tatas, Birlas and Ambanis live the
ideal lifestyle. Sure they do, they can afford it. But most people don’t see the amount of hard
work that goes into sustaining that over the moon lifestyle. Monetary richness
is very important, I agree and I am sure you do too. But when all your emphasis
is given only on cash and assets then I would beg to differ.
Getting on the philosophical side, only having money and not
using it for the general good might disqualify you from being called a rich
person. First and foremost, being a good human is what makes you a rich being.
People today are working harder and harder chasing the materialistic concept of
money. That can buy you the comforts of life; give you a status in the society
but I feel unless you have a heart to help someone in need, be there for the
people who love you and care for you, you cannot (and should not) call yourself rich.
For me I can read, I can write, I have the capability to
help others and that makes me rich. Being the part of a caring family, having
friends that look out for me, being healthy is all that makes me rich.
Of course, more money probably won’t hurt.
